Description
Rare and original, 1910’s Cast Iron, Wind-Up / Clockwork Train Engine / Locomotive manufactured by Ives Manufacturing Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut in Fair condition. Part of the front grill has broken off. Offered here is an “Ives No. 6” Railroad Locomotive with original surface paint.This early 20th century, Cast Iron Railroad Train Engine 6” long, 3 1/2” tall to the top of the smokestack and is O gauge. Stencil text below the window of the cab on one side reads “Ives No. 6”. The motor is powered by a mainspring (similar to a clock mainspring) wound by the action of a key upon the square shaft that protrudes from the side of the Engine (the key is lacking). As the spring unwinds, it drives a series of gears that moves the Engine forward on its tracks. There is a patent date stamped on the motor frame of April 4, 1911
It has never been repainted, touched-up, restored or altered in any way. The wind-up / clockwork mechanism is in good working condition. The Train Engine lacks its original key. Overall this is well preserved example of this rare, O gauge Ives Railroad Train Locomotive Engine.
