    Description

    1951 Crosley Vintage Racer.
Up for bidding is what I believe is a 1951 Crosley vintage racer although I am not 100% sure of the year it was built. It appears to have been home built and possibly the unknown builder was trying to replicate, in his own way, the little racer that raced at Lemans in 1951 (dark blue car pictured with the #59). There is some resemblance to the famous racer but the rear wheels were welded in a somewhat crude manner, which makes me question how much this car was actually raced prior to my grandfather purchasing it.
My grandfather, Barney Pollard was a car collector and this was a part of his collection and as a young kid I used to drive it around his business location where he had an oval track. In one of the pictures there is a picture of me when I was eleven with my grandfather in the mechanic’s seat. The car was originally red in color, with the fenders attached and had a boat-tail but the tail was damaged and removed.
This car has not been started or driven since 1967ishalthough it did operate when it was parked. There is a spare engine that had been in the car originally but was changed out some time ago-do not remember why it was changed. The spare engine has an aluminum oil pan that may look more at home on a performance engine and it had a similar finned aluminum valve cover and water jacket covers but someone liberated them years ago. There is a spare front wheel and three old spare tires as well as the spare bell housing and original fenders.
Tires are old and would need replacing. Rear wheels and tires should also be changed in my opinion.
I am not a Crosley expert by any stretch, but this has what I believe are two of the 44 CID cast iron blocks (one in the car and the spare pictured) and has a three speed manual trans. The drivetrain may be original components but I cannot guarantee that.
I would invite and encourage any prospective buyers to have someone inspect the car prior to bidding.
Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. The car will not be released prior to payment in full and/or the funds have cleared into my account. No trades.
The car is sold on a bill of sale only
