22 travellers escape death in Ogun auto crash

No fewer than 22 persons escaped death following an early morning accident that occurred along the Owode area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Wednesday.

The accident, according to a traffic update obtained by PUNCH Metro, occurred at about 12:05 am when a truck driver lost control and rammed into a commercial yellow bus.

Confirming the incident in an update on Wednesday, the Commandant of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, disclosed that eight persons were injured.

According to Ogunyemi, the accident involved a HOWO 22-tyre truck with number plate EPE-917YC Ash colour and a Ford bus painted yellow with number plate KJA-332XL.
Ogunyemi added, “According to the motor boy of the truck, speeding and loss of control from his driver at Owode slope made him hit the Ford bus from behind.
“Twenty-two persons were involved, eight persons sustained injuries while nobody died in the accident.

“On our arrival at the scene of the accident, we rushed the only remaining injured woman to Diamond Hospital Ijako for treatment.”
PUNCH Metro reported on Tuesday that four persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in two accidents that occurred in the Obanikoro and Chevron areas of Lagos State on Monday.

The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement, said the accidents occurred as a result of excess speeding.

According to Taofiq, the first accident occurred on Ikorodu Road when a Suzuki minibus overturned with three of the occupants were trapped while the second accident occurred when a private car lost control due to speeding and swerved into a gutter along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
